The next signature on our World Champions poster is 1991 4WD 1:10th Scale Champion Cliff Lett!
At Freedom Hill Park in Sterling Heights, Michigan, Lett qualified his Yokomo YZ-10 in sixth place, despite losing his fastest qualifying time for failing to marshal a round after his. After a win in A1 and a second in both A2 and A3, Lett found himself tied with Masami Hirosaka, however Hirosaka’s fifth-place finish in the second leg was lower than Lett’s second, and using that tie break Lett was crowned champion.
Cliff included some fun notes about these photos he sent –
- The trophy is not the original. The original was dropped during the presentation and broke. After some debate, the organizer agreed to make a new trophy instead of just gluing it back together.
- The wing on the car is not his. It’s Mark Pavidis’. Note the different color paint job.
- Cliff was without this car for 30 years as it was in Yokomo’s possession immediately after the race.
- At some point while in Yokomo’s possession the fourth #6 was removed from the inside of the body. Cliff believed it was bad luck to have three #6s on the body so he placed a fourth one inside the body.
Thank you again Cliff for helping us out and adding your autograph!
